The entire team at Social Purpose Corrections (SPC) is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Patrick Mahoney. Patrick was a true giant in the field of corrections and re-entry, having dedicated more than 30 years to advancing rehabilitation and reintegration across Florida—most recently serving as the Florida Department of Corrections’ Director of Programs and Re-Entry.
To those who had the privilege of working alongside him, Patrick was one of a kind. In a field that can easily harden anyone, he remained steadfastly compassionate, caring, approachable, and driven by a genuine heart for helping people rebuild their lives.
When SPC was still just a nascent idea, Patrick didn’t hesitate to step forward. He generously volunteered his time, deep institutional knowledge, and unwavering support to help shape our vision for outcome-based, human-centered corrections. He believed in our mission because he believed, above all else, in second chances and doing what was right for the men and women in the system.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Cathy, his children, granddaughter, extended family, and all who loved him. All of us at SPC are committed to carrying forward the mission he championed for so many decades. We will continue this work to honor his memory, his kindness, and his enduring legacy of service.
